Benefits Of Reformer Pilates | Lovesurf Blog

The Benefits of Reformer Pilates for Athletes

If you haven’t tried Pilates yet, either Reformer or Mat, you are seriously missing out. Pilates is a workout that is not only great on it’s own, but it’s a great complimentary workout for athletes. In between intense training days, Pilates can be used to keep your muscles loose and flexible which is important for staying injury-free, and allows your body to recuperate while still working your muscles. Other benefits of Pilates include: 1. Body awareness: One major reason why people are such big fans of Pilates is because the practice helps you become more aware of your body both in and out of the studio. Pilates teaches you how to breathe — useful when you’re out on your daily run — and how to stand correctly — useful for making your belly look that much flatter. It’s not all deep breathing and better posture; a regular Pilates practice can also connect you with your body and help you be better coordinated and mindful in all your movements. 2. A Killer Core:The instability that is created by the rolling carriage in Reformer Pilates with the springs set at different levels of resistance helps us develop serious core strength—and the stronger our core is, the better …

Surf Hair Care: Keep those Beachy Strands Healthy

We know the ocean makes the most beautiful natural beachy waves, but when you’re at the beach a lot, like most LoveSurf girls, you’re hair can definitely get damaged. The sun and salt can really do a number on your strands. Here’s a few tips to keep your hair healthy and split end-free at the beach: Pre-Sun Care Use a high SPF sunscreen on your scalp and strands to protect you from getting burnt.  Put coconut oil on the ends before you go in the water, this will protect them from splitting   Wet your hair before getting in the water to keep you hair from absorbing salt water Post-Sun Care If you can, rinse with fresh water as soon as you get out of the ocean. As soon as you get out of the water spray with some type of nourishing treatment (Leave-in conditioner will work fine) Rinse with a cleansing shampoo, or because we prefer using natural products whenever we can, rinse your hair with Apple cider Vinegar after shampooing. Put coconut oil on the ends (not to much or your hair will go greasy) And don’t forget to use a deep conditioning treatment or hair mask once a week. Products …

4 Simple Ways to Meditate More

To understand the immeasurable, the mind must be extraordinarily quiet, still.” ― Jiddu Krishnamurti Many of us find meditation incredibly difficult. Sitting, breathing… waiting? What is it all for, anyway? We read articles and watch documentaries on the powerful effects of meditation, however, the commitment to sit and meditate can be daunting. I have found some really simple practices that bring me to a meditative state that can be integrated at any moment in time. Whether you are eating dinner, talking with your family, or driving in your car, here are some simple practices to bring you back into the present moment: 1. Take A Walk My favorite thing to clear my mind is to take a walk. Whether I am traveling in a new city or walking the streets of my hometown that I have seen a thousand times before, walking gives the experience of feeling fully integrated into the environment. Going for a walk increases endorphins, and most importantly, offers an opportunity to become more aware of your surroundings. 2. Notice Your Five Senses No matter what you are doing right now, you can stop, and take note of your five senses. What are you seeing? Do you notice …

Beach Running | Lovesurf Blog

Fit Tip: Beach Running

Bored with the usual grind of going for a run and having that run consist of miles of flat, hard asphault or dealing with colorful characters while on a treadmill? If you’re lucky enough to live by the beach, or be visiting one soon , switch up your routine and go for a jog in the sand. Not only is the view gorgeous and the smell of the ocean way better than your typical street/gym smells, the sand offers excellent resistance. That resistance helps burn 30% more calories! Here’s some tips to get the most out of your sandy workout: Choose your equipment: You don’t need a whole lot for a run on the beach. We would choose these versitile shorts from Nike that have a matching halter top for plenty of support. Also, the shorts are made out of swimsuit material just in case you decide to take a quick dip. Go barefoot. Going without shoes allows you to use your toes to grip the ground, so it’s great for the muscles in your feet and calves. Just be careful because running on uneven surfaces can increase the risk of sprains and tendonitis, not to mention cuts and scrapes …

Fitness Tip: How to Pick the Right Yoga Style for You

Yoga’s physical benefits include increased flexibility, balance and muscle tone, to name a few. The practice also enhances mental health by offering a rare escape from multitasking and a great way for people of all ages to practice letting go of stress. Yoga is definitely for everyone, but there are various styles of Yoga to pick from. Choose the one that’s best for you. Vinyasa What it is: Vinyasa Yoga is characterized by fluid movements and frequent switching between different poses, which raises the heart rate. It makes for a great hour of cardio. Who it’s for: Good for those who don’t like doing the same poses every week, since vinyasa teachers generally change the routine for each class. Hatha What it is: Hatha is a general term for yoga that focuses on physical poses as a way toward self-realization. A hatha class is likely to be traditional, gentle (depending on the teacher), and often incorporates focused-breathing exercises and meditation. Who it’s for: Great for those who want to experience yoga’s mental benefits. Ashtanga What it is: One of the most demanding types of yoga, ashtanga incorporates fast-paced cardio with strength training. Unlike vinyasa, ashtanga yoga uses a set sequence of poses and is usually …
